This collection brings together weight-based grinders for espresso and other brewing methods. Start with the way you brew: a machine that weighs into a grounds bin has a different workflow from one that weighs directly into a supported portafilter.
Choose by brewing method and dosing workflow
For espresso, consider the Baratza Sette 270Wi or the Eureka Mignon Libra. The Sette 270Wi uses an integrated Acaia scale and offers direct-to-portafilter dosing. The standard Libra is Eureka’s 55 mm flat-burr, espresso-focused weight-based model. Check the portafilter support and setup instructions for your equipment before choosing.
For a mix of espresso and filter coffee, compare the Eureka Mignon Libra AP. This is the 65 mm All Purpose version, with a burr design intended for espresso and filter brewing. It is a different model from the standard 55 mm Libra, rather than simply a different finish.
The Baratza Vario W+ pairs 54 mm steel flat burrs with an integrated scale and macro/micro grind adjustment. Its weight-based workflow uses a grounds bin; it is not the same direct-to-portafilter weighing arrangement as the Sette 270Wi. Compare that workflow with how you prepare your coffee each day.
Weight dosing, timed dosing and single dosing
Weight dosing controls the amount dispensed by measuring grounds. Timed dosing stops after a programmed number of seconds, so the resulting weight can change when grind size or beans change. Single dosing usually starts with a separately weighed portion of beans. These are different routines: buying a grinder with a scale does not automatically make it a single-dose design. Dial in the grind as well as the dose
A repeatable dose is only one part of brewing. You still need to adjust grind size and check the result in the cup.
